Let your imagination run wild with resin art

Resin art is a creative medium and unique painting style that does not use typical art brushes or acrylic or oil paints.

Resin art basics

Resin art is created when epoxy resin (a chemical) is combined with colour pigments and additives to produce a blend of unique patterns and textures. Epoxy resin consists of a two-part system of synthetic polymer resin and a hardener. In a ratio of 1:1. The resin mixture will gradually harden to a solid plastic as a chemical reaction between the components takes place. When pouring your resin design onto a canvas, make sure your work surface is level.

Resin art ideas:
1. Wooden resin art: Because epoxy resin hardens to form a strong, durable medium it is popular in transforming plain wooden furniture into unique pieces. Alternatively, the resin may be combined with fragments of wood and pigments to mimic natural elements.
2. Picture art: Resin is compatible with dried inks, and can be used as a protective coating for photographs and preventing UV light from fading the pigments. Turn photos into resin magnets, bookmarks, or coasters.
3. Jewellery and ornaments: By using small silicone moulds, resin jewellery and ornaments can be designed and made. Natural elements such as dried flowers, shells, or precious stones can be incorporated into the resin mould.
4. Crockery: Moulds for cups, vases and plates are available from craft shops to create unique resin pieces. (Resin objects are not dishwasher safe, but can be washed in warm, soapy water) .
