Different highlighter tips - chisel (flat and short), window (thick and flat), bullet (slightly rounded rectangular tip) or dual-tipped (either different sized tips on each end highlighter or different colours at each end) - can make all the difference to your study notes or artwork.

- Choose a fast-drying highlighter to avoid smudging.

Creative highlighter ideas for your sketchbook:
1. If you have a fear of the blank page, then waterbased highlighters come to your rescue in all their neon glory. Using just three colours, fill your white space with vertical lines; this becomes a cohesive background for you to sketch your image or pattern in black.
2. Highlighters are fantastic for ‘highlighting’ or adding simple shading techniques to certain areas of a black sketch or image.
3. Who doesn't love to doodle? Highlighters and doodling are creative partners in crime. Have fun filling a page with colourful patterns. Chisel-nibbed highlighters also allow you to get line variation when using the side of the nib.
